About Climate Club
Climate Club is an initiative of CII Tamilnadu Climate Action Panel to
• Create a generation of students who understand Climate Change
• Prepare students to be informed stakeholders about living on a planet where resources need to be sustainably consumed to tackle climate change.
• Encourage students to collectively engage on climate issues and advocate for greener practices.
• The methodology adopted by the initiative is three-fold, awareness, advocacy and action to create impact through climate education.
Outcomes
Phase 1 of this initiative was piloted by CII TamilnaduClimate Action Panel in 2022 and implemented across 150 schools from all regions of Tamilnadu that registered last year.Teachers registered for online workshops that were led by the NGO Swechha. The teachers in turn engaged their students throughout the school term in Climate Club activities that covered 8 specific modules such as Sustainable Development, Air, Water, Soil, Trees, Forest, Energy, Waste management and Environmental Stewardship. A Climate Club handbook was developed to assist the teachers in their training during workshops and is now readily available to all stakeholders.
Our panel is continuing the Climate Club initiative this year (2023 – 2024) and intend to extend the outreach to more schools in Tamilnadu while innovating the process with additional support and sponsorship.
